Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments
Powersknock
Powersknock standing stone differs from the more usual type found in Co. Waterford because of its unique broad appearance.
It is more reminiscent of a tombstone or an orthostat used in the construction of portal tombs. Easily seen from the road it stands 2 metres tall and is 1.6 metres wide. Perhaps it is the remains of a portal tomb or was just imported into the field from anonther location. It is orientated in a ENE-WSW direction.
Directions: From Waterford City travel the N25 for Cork until you reach Kilmeaden. As you enter the village take the R681 for Bunmahon which veers downwards to the left. About 5oo metres on and just before the first bend you can see the stone in the field to your left.
