Exploring Waterford's Ancient Monuments

A Bullaun Or Not ?

 A Bullaun Or Not ?

"On a recent trek over the mountain above the village of Kilrossanty I came across this interesting stone which was just lying alongside the rough track".

"The stone, which measures about 30cm X 23cm, has two rough Ballaun-like indentations on either side".

"In this area there is a profusion of indentations and holes in the stones and rocks, which no doubt were created by the forces of nature when these mountains originally took shape".

"Maybe this stone was created in such manner but perhaps was further sculptured by man to create what now looks like a double Ballaun".
